How many hours were you (or your wife) in labor?
Did you spend hours in agony or did you just kinda pop it right out? Can you assume if your relatives were in labor for a lot of hours that you probably will be too (does it run in families) or does that not have anything to do with anything?

I was in labor for 12 hours, but I think that I was in labor about a day before that because I had a backache. My second was just about the same.
It was different for my mom. She was knocked out for the whole thing. They did that 40 some years ago. I hope that by the time that my daughter has a child she has it even easier than I did....timewise.

I am not sure if it runs in the family or not. Going from my mothers three, me being the quickest, I think the more then the quicker. I was in early labor with my son for 3 1/2 days (only 1cm. dialated) then true push labor was about 45 minutes. With my daughter, I was in early labor for about 3 weeks, she was born a day before her due date and true push was only about 15 minutes. When people hear about this, the only thing I hear is "You are LUCKY".

I had to have labor induced and nothing worked til they broke my water. Then I labored for about 6 hours (which I never really felt thanks to epi) and pushed for about 3 hours.
I suppose it could run in the family, but I wouldn't let my mother horrify me with stories of her childbirth's. So much is different, and I just doubt that because hers was hard MINE would have to be hard.

I've always heard that the tendency to have long, short, easy or difficult deliveries does run in the family. Every female. that I know of, in my family has had quick and easy deliveries. With my first, my water breaking woke me up. I didn't actually start having any labor pains for almost three hours. And they just started like a mild back ache. Six hours after my water broke, my first son was born. I didn't have anything for the labor pains. My second took the same amount of time. The pains started as pressure in my back, but not getting bad till shortly before birth.
But I think with the medical techniques and changes in life styles of todays women, you can't assume you will have a hard time just because your mother, aunt or others from previous generations did.

With my first I was in labor for about an hour. No joke. They thought the dr wasnt even gonna make it to the hospital. - i was in pre-labor for about an hour before that.
With my last, i did false labor twice, and the second time they asked if i wasn't them to just induce me since i was at term, i said sure... that was stupid. I was in HARD AWFUL I WANT TO KILL SOMEONE labor for about 14hrs before my son was born.

I still think kicking out two kids in about an hour (both together), is freaking awesome - maybe its something that runs in my family, really no idea. O and yes, Epi's are awesome!

I can't remember! Hmm, I think it had to be less than 4 hours. It all happened faster than I could keep track of it, but I remember making breakfast, and I know 4 hours later I was looking in to the eyes of an angel.
