I can tell you a story! I was taken in to be induced because I was a week past my due date and first they shaved my pubic hair then gave me an enema by pouring soapy water into my anus! I then had to quickly use the commode, in the middle of the ward, with a curtain around me that saved people looking but didn't mask the noise! You don't know how lucky you are nowadays.

I remember that. Wasn't that the most awful. The floor was separated in half with beds on both halves separated by curtains. The bathroom was down the hall with a room for showers. Aside from that curtain, there was no privacy.
