About walking during pregnancy

Someone told me that if you walk a lot during pregnancy that you will have a easier time during labor. Does anyone know if that's true? I walk a lot anyway so this would be an easy way for me to continue to stay fit and it would be an added bonus if it actually made labor easier.

I'm not sure I've heard that one before but it sounds like something of a wives tale to me. Exercising probably does make labor easier but I'm not sure just walking in general is going to do all that.

Could they have meant that walking during labour makes it easier? I know that one is true. It uses gravity to help baby come out. During pregnancy, I think any excercise, not just walking, is good as you go into the labour more fit.

I'm not absolutely positive how it works

My friend told me that it would strengthen many of the muscles that are used during labor and so is what helps with labor. Maybe it's not true but it seems like it would make sense. Either way, I will continue to walk just to keep fit in general but it would be a nice bonus if the result was an easier labor.

I know that walking is good when your pregnancy since its low impact, and also that sometimes doctors will have you walk around to speed up labor, but I have never heard anything else about it.

I did much walking while I was pregnant, it was good exercise for me as I was scared to do much of anything. It was fun too and it helped to clear my head.
