Is nine the new 15?

I'm raising my nine year old granddaughter and I swear she's like a fifteen year old. The mannerisms, switching, giggling, wanting to wear lip gloss. What should I expect when she is a teenager?

I think girls are growing up way to fast these days. I agree about the 9 being the new 15. My 10 year old thinks she is on top of the world! Just instill in her the good morals and consistency you had as a child and she will surely grow up just fine!

I think it's a combination of peer pressure and how they're raised. Children see other children doing something, and they want to. If they're not allowed to, they will sometimes lose interest. If it's explained to them why they should wait to be that way, often they will understand.

I think though if I'm honest that they are what you allow them to be. As her guardian you can say that no, those things are not age appropriate-that is your choice to make.

Honestly times are crazy because clothes that they sell for young girls and everything else they see, is telling them to hurry up and grow up. I wish they would stop trying to teach little girls to act like grown ups.

I thought I grew up fast but after catching some of the recent news with the town where I live seen our teens, that was nothing. I wonder how much when each decade ends and another starts, how much if a difference in scale though?

Yeah, I see kids are growing faster than their actual ages. My daughter is still six year old and fortunately she is like a six year old girl. But I wouldn't wonder if she would be like a 15 yo when she reach 9.

I completely agree with this. Our kids wouldn't get such mature ideas if they didn't see it elsewhere, particularly television. I think it makes our job as responsible parents that much harder.
