I was reading recently that kids who are prone to certain skin conditions but who don't actually have them yet, might be triggered by living with cats. It was only a few years ago we were told it reduced allergies-what gives?

I think there are a ton of "studies" and "reports" coming out that are just on the bogus side. I have read some that just make you want to scratch your head and deeply sigh.

It could depend on what the skin condition is. Allergies can be triggered by a build up in the system of allergies or reduced by a build up of tolerance. Either is true and depends on the person. Maybe these conditions you were reading about are linked specifically to things on cat skin, dander or fur?

Most of the time its dander at least with those in my family who are allergic and deal with it. Sometimes I find the levels of tolerance around cats for two cousins of mine fully off the charts, one can pet them and have no issues other than maybe watery eyes while the other goes into the kitchen or bathroom and looking for the benydral and they are twins too. Just goes to show you how things can effect others so differently.
