Kids know too much!

Kids these days have changed, they know a whole lot more then when I was their age. The internet have brought kids forward a whole lot faster than before

It's normal nowadays to hear kids barely into puberty talking about sex, gay relationships, porn and what not. There's little to no way we can stop them from being influenced by the media that is readily at hand to them, so it's in their best interests that we guide them so they understand more about such topics, although my own mother is against it.

During my time, all I cared about was hopscotch and meeting my neighbours to play 'cook' and 'make me up'. How times have changed!

Yes kids do know so much more. My son has been Googling snakes. You would not believe that this kid knows every single sort of snake out there, what is poisonous, how long you have to get help when you are bit, how much bacteria is in a snakes mouth. And so on and so on.

I suppose it's got to be a good thing, since it's progress, right? I feel a little sad however because kids seem to grow up too quickly having all this knowledge so early. Also, it's no good not allowing them to watch TV or use the internet because you can be sure that all their friends have and will tell them about it!

Yes exactly! It's no use restricting them, kids have their other resources to the things that we restrict, so I really feel like WE have to keep up with them and their activities! Not only that we have to be at least one step hard. It's a challenge being parents in this current day and age!

I was just thinking about this the other day, yes kids know much more than we did at their age about sex and such but when you think about it 100 or so years ago a girl would be married and having children by the time she was 14. So I guess we have come full circle.

I think there is still a large issue of parents not paying attention. I know a few parents that I tend to yell with that do not even monitor their kids online time and that to me is just wrong. Who knows what they could stumble on if left on a computer without any parental controls??

I suppose that's why some of the closed communities like Amish and Mennonite are very insistent that their people not become associated with those outside of their community - it helps them control what their children are exposed to and keeps a sort of purity to their communities.
