Little Ones and Fish

I know that the amounts and types of fish that are safe to be given to little ones are limited. So how much does your little one have, and what type?

I limit tuna after reading an article that independant testing said the mercury levels in canned tuna varies enormously and 1 in 4 is very high. So they have it once a month. I buy canned alaskan salmon, deboned and deskinned, and use that instead. Aside from that we eat the occasional cod, halibut, or tilapia steak, because those are also low in mercury and pcb's.

Shrimp, however, we eat weekly, because it's low in pollutants and tasty.

I always try not to worry about the levels myself, although we eat less fish than we should. We normally eat cod from the market or bass we catch locally in the pond so hopefully its not as mercury laden. I do worry about tunas these days. It used to be dolphins being injured you worried about and not lead...

I don't need to worry about fish yet because my son refuses to have it, I don't know how he identifies it in the various way that I prepare it, but he doesn't want it.

Don't shoot me but... I thought the question was about getting a little one a fish as a pet not food. (Where is the embarrased smiley around here) Sorry I got no input on this

We use codfish, which my son doesn't want. Apart from that it's like snappers, parrot and similar ones. He doesn't eat much of any of the fishes, so I guess he's safe for now.
