Lucky Charms Before Bedtime

Hello all,
My son is 18 months and everytime before bedtime I mix some Cheerios and Lucky Charms with 8 oz of water mixed with 4 scoops of Nido Nestle powder made for children 1 year and older. After cereal (which is his last meal before bed so he will sleep throughout the night and not wake up for another feeding) I wait about 15-20 min so he can wind down a bit and then I take him to bed. In bed he will roll around for about 30-45 min until he just crashes. Some days he will roll around for about 1-1 1/2 hours before he crashes. My question is, is the Lucky Charms keeping him awake that long while he rolls around with his stuffed dog? Is it the sugar? If so, can i keep the Cheerios and substitute something else for the LC's?

Oh, my wife has spoiled him that he doesnt sleep in his crib. He sleeps with us in the bed. So, it's tough when we are tired and he is still rolling around because if we fall asleep before him (unintentionally) then it's dangerous cause he can fall off the bed. Does this amount of rolling around happen to anyone else??

Hi Pelu.
My son is also 18 months and up until 14 months he was having porridge at night and a bottle before bed. I was hesitant to stop the porridge as i thought it would stop him from sleeping through. My mother is a midwife and so she pushed me to try it out. He now eats a cooked dinner at night, (sometimes he doesn't even eat a lot at all) and then a bath and a bottle for bed. I give him 225ml of water with 3 scoops of Nido 1+ and he sleeps like a baby throughout the night. We lie him on the bed to fall asleep and he drinks his bottle and within 10 minutes he is sound asleep. We then move him into his cot. Hope this helps you a little.

I want to say that it's really dangerous to have him sleep with you. So many babies are accidentally rolled over on and smothered. I know it probably won't happen, but it could. Please be really careful. Sounds like if he is rolling all around he should be in his crib.

Cheerios are okay because they only have 1 gram of sugar per serving, but the Lucky Charms need to go. I wouldn't want my son eating Lucky Charms at any time of day or night.

Yes, the rolling around is normal at this age. My son sleeps in a crib and he moves all over the place in his sleep. You need to do something about that co-sleeping situation too. The risk of him falling off the bed is dangerous and he could get seriously hurt. Also, if he is keeping you awake that's not good either.

I have never known anyone that has done this before but that does not mean it would not work. For me though I would guess some of the sugary goodness that the little one gets could be keeping them up longer (esp. true if they had a late nap that day).
