Any of you all live with your parents or grandparents? As my parents have gotten feebler with age, we are trying to figure out a situation where they can either live with us or in a retirement community. What are the pros and cons of having your parents in the house with you?

Fortunately my parents are both very healthy and they lead healthy lifestyles. I would move them into my house in a heartbeat if they needed me though. I work at home so I could be here all day with them.

As I get older that questions becomes more real. Older folks have made their mistakes and have learned from them so they're not really interested in changing for someone younger who has not learned. If you choose a retirement home, please go by and see them often and make it one of those private apartment kind of things; not a nursing home. We like our meals the way we like them, when we like them. We like the house to look like no one lives in it. We have hobbies and we're independent even if we're not physically. We're not babies; even if we can't feed, dress or bathroom ourselves. Imagine how you'd feel if you had to have someone take you to the bathroom or worse yet, wear one of those adult pampers and have to be changed.

My mother lives with us and she is a blessing in our little family. She is still very healthy and energetic at 77, and my daughter adore her.
