Motivation

I know getting a child out there to excersise is supposed to be easy. But how do you really get one motivated?

I am not a very active perosn myself, but I hit up the gym (to keep my figure), other than that I would never do anything outdoorsy... and my husband is also quite lazy and against sports so we just dont know how to get motivation into our child.

I mean... I have heard, get out there and play games with them yourselves, both me and my partner are afraid of the sun. I'm not sure any suggestions? I'm afraid my daughter just got it from me :S

Have you tried a reward like going to the park? A food reward wouldn't be too good unless its healthy (no ice cream). But the park or maybe even workout equipment (sunglasses, sneakers, shirt) might work as well. You could make the rules be you can't wear the workout gear without working out...

What about indoor things like swimming or ice skating? I like to bowl, it's the only "sport" I play. It's so hard to get motivated but I swear, once you do, you feel so much better.

Have you ever thought about having skip rope contest. Buy some skipping rope for each person in the house and have a tournament. Each person will get a reward each month.

There's a lot you can do in your own yard. We play ball games-soccer, t-ball (which never gets a hit at this point but will in future!), riding trikes on the drive, playing hopscotch, playing on the climbing frame in the back garden.

Even better, when it rains we go puddle jumping.
