The day before my second daughter was born, was April 30, 1970. I went to the doctors and he asked me when was my due date. I told him, May the first. Then he asked me who told me my due date was May first. I told him that he did. He looked at me and smile. He then proceeded to do his examine. He took his fingers and pushed them down into my side by my right hip and I don,t recall grabbing his hand ,but he was shaking his hand and it was in mine.
I notice that I was in a position like I was doing a crunch and my side was hurting. He smiled at me again and asked again when was my delivery date. Again I told him, May the first. He smiled and walked out of the room, leaving me totally confused.
I was still a little confused and a little angry because he had caused my side to start hurting. Then I went out of his office and was walking down the sidewalk and I tripped over the sidewalk and fell forward. I caught myself on my hands and knees. A patrol women, who was helping the kids cross the street ran over and helped me up. Without her help I don't think I could have gotten up. I thanked her profusely, while assured her I was alright. Then I went bought the bigger, yellowish bunch of bananas I had ever seen.
The next day , I got up and took my two oldest children to school and went to the hospital because I knew I had been in labor all night. It was very mild but the pains just kept coming quicker. The pains was so annoying that I could not sleep. Like bad period camps, but manageable.
When I got to the hospital my doctor was already there and he just stood there looking at me and smiling. He said ,good to see you. This was like at 12 o-clock noon. So he did his examine again and told me I was 4cm and he want to run to the office and come back so he was see me again in a few hours because that how long it was before he thought I would be ready to deliver. He was wrong.
About ten minutes later, a nurse came into the room and examined me again and said "Oh my God", you are nine cm and ready to go and she ran out of the room to try and catch my doctor. Well, I guess she did because he came back into the room about five minutes later, looking like he had been running.
The funny thing about him through, was that he was still smiling.
He says , Oh you seem calm. I was because I still was not hurting very badly, not like I thought I would be. So off to the delivery room we go. They got me all situated on the delivery table and all and the song playing on the radio had a line in it that said " the mother and child reunion is only a moment away".
I laughed and pushed and had my little girl. I think I push too hard because she came into the world very fast. The doctor caught her in mid air. She was very loud. I got 58 stitches because she came out so fast. but it did not matter because I had my little girl. They let me hold her while they sewed me up.
