Well, I had a difficult pregnancy(gallbladder inflammation, sickness(not just in the morning!) throughout the whole 9 months, swelled ankles, sore back, etc.) but my labor and the birth of my son went pretty darn smoothly. I felt contractions on April 17th around 6 or 7 in the morning but I knew not to panic. I knew that if I went into the hospital now, I'd be in there for a long time; my obgyn said first babies take 12-16 hours. So, I waited until the next morning around 8am(did not get ONE wink of sleep b/c of the pain) to start timing my contractions since they felt pretty close apart. I think maybe I waited just a tad bit too long because on the way, they were 2 mins apart. Got to the hospital at 8:49am and was already 4cm dialated- asked for the epidural, dr. came and broke my water at 10:30am and then guess what! An hour and 15 minutes later I was ready to push. I was completely numb from the waist down and only pushed 4 times til my baby boy Hunter was born at 11:55am. I spent only about three hours in the hospital, it was awesome. I was totally expecting to be laying there for hours and hours and hours, but it was so easy I almost wanna say I could've done it without the epidural(easy to say now that it's over). While contractions suck, there's no feeling close to when your baby's born; it's all you care about from then on.
So for anyone scared about going into labor, just remember if you don't wanna sit around the hospital all day, wait out ur contractions as long as you can;but maybe not as long as I did(2 minutes apart, jeeze)
Good luck everyone!
