I am not sure it hurts having a famous name. I am named after my great great grandmother and people are like...what kind of name is that....at least if you were named after someone famous it would be a recognized name.

I wouldn't want to have the same name as a famous person. You'd have to spend the rest of your life explaining you aren't "that" Elvis Presley, lol. I think when naming a child after someone else it can cramp their style especially if you spend lots of time telling them about the person they are named after. They might feel obligated to be like that person or the complete opposite, without thinking of their own choices.

Yes, I do believe it exists.

If you are asking whether I would do it... well, it would depend on the name. I don't like real common names, and I don't like anything that is made up. There are some names that I think famous people have ruined like Keanu (a perfectly beautiful Hawaiian name, but no one would ever think of Hawaii, just Keanu Reeves when they heard of it). I would avoid recreating a famous name, ie, if our last name was Jones, I wouldn't name my daughter Norah. Just my taste, I want my children to feel somewhat unique, that they don't have to fill expectations based on their names.

My MIL (who is Muslim) really wanted us to name our son Hussein because my DH's name is Ali, and in the Qoran Ali is the father of Hassan and Hussein. I absolutely refused to name our son Hussein, given the times. You don't hear many Adolfs these days either.

Depending on the persons name, what if that child grows up thinking they have to do as well or be as smart as that person? I could see the good and the bad from it, just make sure its a name they are not teased for!
