Need "stick-to-your-ribs" snacks

My son is on medication that increases his appetite and he's gained 30 lbs. since starting on it. It also has a side effect of causing constipation which isn't helping. I need ideas on foods that a teenage boy will eat that will be high in fiber so fill him up but counteract the constipating effect of the med. Any suggestions?

There are plenty of cereals that will help with this, but you know protein is about the best for helping you to feel full longer. The problem is that you need to know if your son is experiencing just an increased desire for food, or more frequent stomach emptying. If it is the first case, then filling him up each time he desires food won't help, because he will still crave food soon after-it works on the brain not the tummy.

In that case he would be better off with frequent, small meals. They each can include something that he really wants, but otherwise be healthy.

I like to bake and found an easy way to sneak in lots of undetectable fiber is through carrot pulp. I add it to my muffins and cakes and if anything it makes the items more moist and sweeter.

We used to buy the best muffins from the juice bar near us. The owner's wife used the fruit and veggie pulp to bake with. Apples, and carrots and celery and such. They were addictive. Depending on how you feel about fiber supplements they have tons of different ones these days from ones to add to drinks, food, crackers, etc.

I normally find soups/stews/chillies to be the most filling when trying to feed large appetites. You can serve with crackers or breads and still not be unhealthy.
