Night weaning

Does anyone have any suggestions for night weaning? I want to night wean Charlie. We co-sleep still, and he's been nursing all night lately and I'm chronically sleep deprived. I'd also like to start trying to conceive number two, but I haven't gotten my period back yet, and I think that night weaning will help that.

I went through the same thing. My son would wake every 4 hours through the night. The only thing that worked for me was putting his crib in another room. For us, whenever he woke, I would get him before he cried, when he may have gone back down on his own. By putting his crib elsewhere, I avoided the unneeded wakeups. He was 7 months at the time.

How old is your son? Before 6 months, I would say let him nurse. Before that, they need to nurse often. If he's older, maybe try putting him in a different room to sleep. If you want to continue co-sleeping, maybe a pacifier would work. You'ld still be waking, but you would be nursing less through the night.

If he takes the bottle, you could try feeding him some water in the night, after a while, he may become tired of waking up for water and sleep through the night.

I'm working on the same thing with my son, who is 14 months now. He's teething right now, so I'm not being to crazy about restricting him. Have you read The No Cry Sleep Solution? It's really helped us.

I'd be sooo happy with every 4 hours! He doesn't take a bottle either.

I'll check out that book, thanks. I wonder if they have it at my local library.

How old is he?

If he's under a year old, you might want to wait before trying to conceive again. It takes a full year for your body to fully recover from a pregnancy. I've never tried co-sleeping as I've heard there is a danger of smothering an infant but I think it would be nice to be closer to my baby.

surprise, it's actually that you should wait a year between births, not a year from birth to conception. So technically, you can conceive another when your baby is about 12 weeks, and as long as your second is full term there will still be a year between them.

Try putting some earwax on your nipples at night to make them gross for the baby. I got that idea from that nasty stuff you paint on your nails that makes you stop biting them, but i was afraid that stuff may be harmful to put on your nipples and bad for the baby.

So i though of earwax, its safe, and i figured the baby is drinking milk from my boob so wax from my ear shouldnt be a big deal. It took a week or so but i had pretty good results

Careful though because if your nipples were chapped as bad as mine were it will sting a bit the first few times.

Good luck!

I also have the same problem and reading beyond your thread gave me a lot of things to think and consider about. My baby is 16 months old and still teething so I really give better attention especially when he experience this kind of situation.
