Will a hospital really hold you and tell you that you can not leave until you name your child? I heard about this growing up and I never really thought to ask any staff if that was the case or not.
I think it depends on the hospital. My sister didn't name either of her kids before they were two weeks old; the first hospital put up such a fight about it, but after a call to the head of the maternity section (gulp) they let her go. The second had no issue and just gave her the papers.

How does that affect the filing of the baby's birth certificate? I would be afraid that they would question the child's identity at some point if it wasn't done in the "normal" manner.
