Nursing Preemies

I have a friend who had a 35 week preemie. She pumped milk from birth and refused to allow any formula.

The baby is now five weeks old-she is term. She is doing great and nursing like a champ. Have you any experience of dealing with such little ones?

I have a doula client who delivered by emergency c-section 3 weeks early and baby was airlifted to nearby facility with a NICU. While mommy and baby were separated we established pumping and once mom was able to join baby the baby was given the colostrum and breastmilk we had collected. They also did a lot of skin to skin to help with bonding - shortly thereafter baby was nursing like a champ and put on the pounds without any issues.
I know with my own breastfeeding I found that keeping track of feedings and wet diapers was key in reporting back to the doctors, especially since my daughter had jaundice and then was diagnosed with a heart condition.
Congrats to all you breastfeeding mommies out there and to the dad's who support you!
