Nursing someone else's baby

I have heard it done before. Would you be willing to nurse someone's baby for them. Or let's say that you were having a problem nursing, would you be willing to let another woman breast feed your baby?

My sister and I had babies at the same time. I breast fed for as long as I could. There was a point where I was very ill and had to go in the hospital. It was an emergency and my mother took the baby to my sisters. We both breast fed and there was no formula on hand so she nursed her child and mine. I was so thankful she was there because the baby was still getting nurtured and the healthy milk.

I think it would just depend on the situation and possibly your relationship to the other person. I think it's great that your sister was able to help out Farisa.

That was a wonderful thing your sister did Farisa. Georgiamom, that's true, if you don't have trust/good relationship with someone, you would probably just opt to go to formula and not even bother.

I would be willing to, but letting MINE be nursed by someone else would be harder, since so much is passed through breastmilk.

I agree with Mom2JDS. My sister in law just had a baby and is having problems with breastfeeding. If asked I would help my little niece in a heart beat. I would have a tougher time letting someone else breastfeed my baby. However, if the baby's health was in problem, I would accept the help.

We have family members who act as wet nurses. I've done it for a friend who had a hard sucker and her nipples were raw; so I nursed her son along with mine. It's not something that's done with casual acquaintances.

I would help out if it was a family member or a really close friend. I like others of you would have a harder time with letting someone else nurse my baby. Only because I know what my habits are and that I am a really healthy eater so I know my baby gets the best nutrients possible.

No! I am sorry but I could not do this and I would not allow some other women to nurse my baby. There are enough good formulas out there that I would use first. I just don't like this idea at all.
