Offending Relatives
What's a nice way of saying "uhhh... no" when an elderly relative asks you to consider naming your child after one of your ancestors? I love Granny dearly, but naming my son after her daddy was just not something I could have done. Nimrod... who names their child that?

Say you are already thinking of some names, but aren't too sure about it yet, and say that you will take it into consideration.

I know the feeling. Do what you feel.

Tell them that if they want to name a child, perhaps they should have another of their own

Tell that to Granny? I don't think so. In my family that's considered disrespectful. She's old, you just don't talk back to old people.

Ha! I guess it depends on the Grandma. I don't think I would be too offended if that was said to me. As long as they give a reason why they don't like the name.

Then I'm guessing you're not from the south, and you're not in your mid 80's. Seems old southern ladies are easily offended.

My mother-in-law is like that also. She doesn't push it that much, but sometimes gets offended. We reassure her that we love her though.

I am only a middle-aged, midwestern gal. I don't take things that seriously, I find no need to.

Just sweetly tell them you'll add the name to your list.
