Other People's Kids

It seems that the kids in my neighbourhood are generally not well fed. We've had a number over to dinner at various times and they will never eat what we have. It's nothing horrible-just things like veg and mash with fish or so on. All they will eat is mash.

Is this how things are generally now?

No, not in my house! We almost always eat healthy, with lots of fresh veggies and fruits. We don't eat junk. I have no problem feeding neighbor kids either, but they have to eat what I'm making.

The one friend my girls have had over seemed to want to eat a lot of junk food as well. I told her this was what we were having. I make my kids try everything every time I make it just to see if their taste buds have changed.

That's the same with the kids around my area. Just had a few over the past weekend and all they wanted to eat was fries and mashed potato too, and my daughter followed suit. She normally eats what I put on the table, but I guess she wanted to fit in with her friends. I innocently asked her after her friends went home if she's still hungry and she gave me this happy look and nodded.

Its a shame when it comes down to peer pressure and not even the child's own tastes! I wonder why it is that things have become so bad these days.

My children eat what we give them. Do to the 'busy' society we have now I think parents rather just give their kids what is fast and easy then actually prepare meals for them. I also have children that eat well balanced meals with fruits and veggies and they have no problem eating it.

We eat very few carbs in this house so potatoes, bread, and pasta are a rea treat. I think a lot of the problem these days is that pastas and the like are cheap and so that's what parents are forced to buy.
