our cat

My doctor has advised us to get rid of our cat. I am not sure on what basis he makes this decision. We are expecting our second child and our 7 year old is extremely attached. What would you do?

Is someone allergic to the kitty? If not, I'd just ignore him. Doctors may THINK they know everything, but they don't. If nobody in your family has a problem with the cat, then there's no reason to get rid of it!

I agree. I know pregnant women shouldn't have any contact with the litter box, but as long as you have someone else there to handle that for you and no one is allergic I would keep the cat.

Did you not ask the doctor about the reasons behind his advice? Do you think it has something to do with toxoplasmosis which normally is attributed to cats?

Doesn't make sense to me.

Maybe the doctors not a cat person???

Like Arial said if there's someone there to take care of the litter box, there shouldn't be an issue. I think it's a matter of taking extra care.
