Overweight three year old

I am so lost at what to do. I am the mother of five children. My youngest will be 4 in December and she is overweight. None of my other children were even close to this size. She is 55 pounds and 37 inches. She is very active and really doesn't eat much at all. I have asked the doctor and he doesn't seem concerned at all about this and thinks it will just pass with as she grows. It hard to carry her and find clothes that fit her. I hate this for her and I don't have any idea what to do. Any suggestions at all. I won't be offended in anyway to don't worry about tiptoeing around me. I am here to get help for her. I know it's hard on her. She struggles while doing just about anything. I am going to try to attach a picture of her but not sure if I know how to.

First, let me says 'Aww, she is as cute as a button!' She's going to be a pretty young lady. But, yes, I can understand your concern that it is not just 'babyfat' that she will eventually grow out of. Before making too many comments, can you speak some regarding what her diet is like? Just a general idea of her fave foods, snacks etc.

I try to be careful with her food intake. Breakfast is normal a bowl of cereal or some eggs, lunch hot dog no bun or lunch meat(she isn't a big bread eater), cheese stick (she loves cheese), chips (maybe 10 or 12), sometimes some fruit or applesauce it just depends on how hungry she is. Dinner is whatever I make for the family. Meat, vegtable, fruit, bread (she doesn't eat the bread), and mac-n-cheese or rice or some sort of starchy food. She does snack after lunch but it's sugar free popsicle or banana or apple. She drinks skim milk, water and apple juice. I know it sounds weird but she doesn't really eat that much compared to her size and my other children at her age. I would be lying if I said she never has candy or sweets because she does but not very often and not very much. She does not drink pop or kool aid. I don't know what is wrong or if I am just being over concerned about this.

It does you credit that you are taking such good care of her and if the doctors are not concerned perhaps you shouldn't be either. She is a chubby girl but nothing unusual for her age and such a cute little girl. It may be that she will grow taller suddenly, as they do. Try to ensure that her portion sizes are not too large because her diet doesn't sound unhealthy and keep her active. I'm sure you will see her losing it as she grows.

She is as cute as can be! Is it possible that she is just larger framed than your other children because she doesn't look "fat". Her diet sounds pretty healthy and the only thing I wopuld even watch portions on is the rice and pasta, and white sugar. The rest of it as long as she is active should be just fine.

She really is beautiful! Ok I would first see to what you consider isn't a lot. Ask another parent what they prepare for their children-what portion sizes they give. Maybe unknowingly you are giving too much?

I would not fret over it if the doctor isn't concerned. They work with children all of the time and know about these things. Cut back on things like bread, rice and noodles in her diet and give her whole grain foods, salads and any fruit that she wants. That will help her thin down a bit. She's a doll!

Thank you all. I did get her a bike this weekend to help with exercise. She hasn't been off of the thing for long, she loves it. I did notice yesterday her asking for all kinds of food which is rare for her. Maybe she was just burning alot of energy from bike riding. I am going to start watching her portion size, something I don't pay much attention to since I never had the issue with the other kids. Again, thanks very much. Any suggestions at all I would be happy to try.

Some of the biggest things I notice from other parents is the lack of help. The key word being exercise, and no one seems to do this anymore (except for those who are single). What happens when you become a parent that you somehow forget that exercise is important to all ages.
