Paternity leave?

In your family, does the baby's father usually take paternity leave to stay home and help you after the baby is born, or do you have to recover yourself?

Nope, never for me. My mom stayed with us for the first week and we were just fine. My hubby took a couple of days off but not 6 weeks! We needed the income, I lost a big part of my check going on disability when I had my baby.

Yes, it's a big deal if dad is the breadwinner. My husband is a soldier and too committed to his spe******ed job to take that long off work, but he did have a couple of weeks leave to help me and the baby. At least I got maternity pay.

My husband took 2 weeks for each of our children as well but never 6 weeks. I received maternity pay too and felt very lucky for that.

Nope my husband is the sole bread winner so he has to go back to work. He took a few days the first time and I am sure he will do the same this time. My mom is nearby to help out if I need a hand.

I had a single week, and it was the last week that we spent together as a family before things truly fell apart. My ex was really a waste of time though and wouldn't even feed the baby-he left her crying for five hours the one and only time he had her. So I wasn't exactly sorry he went back to work!

As a father, I can tell that I wish there was paternity leave. Once I found out my wife was going to have a baby I made sure to save my vacation/personal days and have been accruing comp time. I hope to stay at least 3 weeks with her.

I am with all of you. My husband was barely able to take one week off from work. We really needed the money. I am hoping that this time he can get a little longer. He is really good with out daughter.

My husband took the first week off of work. He saved his vacation time so that he would not be worried about the bills and we spent time together as a new family.

My ex was too busy at work to even stay with me in the hospital. He had me released as early as possible to leave me home alone with our infant for 10 hours! So no, not all own up to the responsibility!
