When I was pregnant, I remember looking everywhere for names. Newspapers, books, magazines - not even baby related ones, anywhere at all. Suddenly my list of clients at work became fascinating to me as I mused on their names and their kid's names. I'd scrutinize the TV and movie credits after the show to see all the different names in case there was anything I liked. No one was safe!
It's not as easy as you'd think actually because the first name has to also go with the surname. Sometimes two names just don't sound right together at all. As Jonnie said, it's with that child for the rest of their life, so you need to choose carefully. It is fun also though, I'd be less than honest if I said it wasn't.
Babies are nothing like dolls. You're talking about a real person in miniature that depends on you 24/7 for its very survival and I mean that in all seriousness. Food, shelter, love, care, hygiene, health...everything. Yes, they are a joy but no one should even think about having a baby if they're unwilling to devote the huge chunk of time and energy for the next eighteen or so years of their life that's required to raise a happy, healthy child. Motherhood simply is not a responsibility that should be taken on lightly. I honestly believe that it's the most rewarding yet toughest job in the world.
