Piercing Baby's Ears?
If you had a girl did you pierce her ears when she was young or let her decide as an older child? My parents didn't and made me wait til I was 11 to get them pierced "when I was mature enough to know if I wanted them pierced" which was a fiasco. No feeling in your earlobes my tushie, lol. I've often thought about piercing my girl's but haven't. Has anyone else worried over this decision?

I was 6 the first time mine were done, my mother allowed it (her best friend took me to have them done) my father hated it. I have a niece that asked if my girl would have hers done and I replied that she can, when she is old enough to take care of them.

I think it's dangerous
I wouldn't let my girls until they were older. I wanted them to be able to take care of them and be aware of what they were doing. I would never pierce an infant or toddler's ears as I have seen injuries to little ones. Many years ago, I was visiting a friend who had twin girls. They were about 18 mos. old or so at the time. Their ears had been pierced since they were infants. Somehow while they were playing with a toy telephone, the "phone cord" got caught on one of the girl's earring. Trying to get the phone back, her sister yanked on it. The poor thing ended up with a ripped earlobe and stitches out of this. I was pregnant with my first at the time and vowed I would never pierce my child's ears when they were little.

It is not my body to make that choice with, and honestly I am horrified at seeing babies a few months old with their ears done. When she is old enough to ask, and understand the care that they will need-and follow through with that, then she can have them done.

My almost 3 year old has just started showing interest in the last month, and just to the extent of "when I grow up I can wear earrings like that". I think it will be a while before she realizes she could ask to have them pierced, and then it will be a while after that before I allow it. I want her old enough to be able to care for them, and old enough to make that decision.
And as the pp said: it's not my body to alter, especially an unnecessary cosmetic alteration.

None of my kids have shown enough of an interest yet to even understand that they are not capable of wearing them. And I think that there are many alternatives, such as magnetic earrings, that I would have them try first.

No magnetic earrings in my home. After the scare with the magnetic toys and being swallowed being a huge safety issue there will be no magnetic jewelry in the house that is small enough to be swallowed. Its makes me queasy thinking of it.
I guess I just worry it may hurt as much as when I had mine done. At 11years I cried like they were cutting my ear off with kitchen shears and at 22 when I had the second set done it still hurt alot. It never seems quite worth the pain for quite some time after getting it done.
