There is really no reason for a woman to experience pain when she breast feeds if she puts the nipple in the baby´s mouth correctly and if she prepares her nipples ahead of time.

Morning and evening about a month before the baby is born gently stretch the nipples outward until it is uncomfortable. Also after you shower dry the nipples by rubbing the towel across them several times.

There are two basic reasons why women find breast feeding painful. The first is because the baby does not take the nipple into his mouth correctly and he is just sucking on the tip.

The second is because the nipples were not properly prepared before the baby was born. Talk with your doctor and he will tell you how to do this.

Doctors actually tell you NOT to do this anymore. It has no real benefit and worse-nipple stimulation can cause uterine contractions, so it's not something that is advised anymore.
