Progesterone injections

When I had trouble conceiving over 35 years ago, I was given injections of progesterone and I did, eventually have a baby but I've never really known why I had to have these. I wonder if anyone knows? (I expect this is an old fashioned treatment nowadays.)

I don't know about that for conceiving, but I had to use progesterone suppositories when I got pregnant because I had had five miscarriages prior to this last pregnancy. I have no problem getting pregnant, but once I do my progesterone levels drop so that my body rejects the fetus. I think when it comes to having babies, progesterone is very important from beginning to end.

That may well explain it then, thank you. I had already had 6 miscarriages before they gave me the injections and I recall a gynocologist telling me that my womb was tilted backwards! I went on the have a healthy boy and, nine years later, a healthy girl though.

I had the same problem, but my doctor never told me so I didn't know the name of hormone then. He said there are two estrogen and progesterone. Estrogen stays in the body until pregnancy and the other takes over after pregnancy. Sometimes, the estrogen levels are so high, it starts the reproduction cycle again and your body cleans out to start over.

I have friends who take oral progesterone every time they ovulate, just in case they get pregnant, because their body won't sustain the pregnancy if they don't. It's an important hormone
