Road Trips!

My kidlet has been on from southern california to South Eastern Texas to meet his great grandma, and from california to move to washington. Long trips!

On the way to Texas he did great since my brother was along for the ride down and kept him very entertained. My brother went to stay though, someone needed to stay with my grandma since she'd recently had open heart surgery, I had a baby and was stuck with my now-ex. The return trip he was NOT happy with. He was so tired of the car. We let him play with our cell phones and anything that lit up and made noise, it was about the only thing that made him happy.

From cali to washington he slept almost the whole way, AND he even slept when we stopped in a hotel overnight. I was SO lucky. Mostly the motion lulled him down. I have no idea how he'd have ever handled a plain trip.

I really want to take him on a train ride.

What experiences do you have with trains?

I haven't traveled with a child, but I have traveled by Amtrak. If you're going quite a distance, it's a pretty nice ride. We had an 800 mile trip... the first part of it (Detroit to Chicago) wasn't on one of the nice trains. It was just a short trip train. It was crowded, the seats weren't that comfortable, and I didn't like it. Thank goodness it wasn't for long. The train for the last part of the trip had comfortable seats. It also had a food car, so you could go get something to eat or drink. The ride was very smooth.

Since you don't have to worry about keeping your eyes on the road, you'll have time to play with your child and keep him entertained. I think he'll probably enjoy a trip on a train.

I've also traveled Amtrak though not with children. I am afraid to fly so if I need to be somewhere its either by car or train. As Lilly said, Amtrak has the nice trains then they also have the eqaul to the city bus train The nice trains are generally double deckers and the seats in them are huge and comfy. They recline back and foot rests. I love going up to the observation deck and just watching the countryside. Its so peaceful. I enjoy traveling by train the most as long as I get one of the "good" trains.
