Hi, My youngest daughter Sophie suffers from severe constipation and has done for at least the last six months (she's 16 months old). She has a normal balanced diet, loves vegetables, and drinks plenty of water/squash/milk. We discovered that using vast quantities of prune juice gives her normal and regular stools but if we let up on it for a day or so she'll suffer from a massive build up, spend a couple of days being grumpy (not her usual bright and sociable self) and then my wife and I will eventually have to hold her hands while she pushes out stools that can be up to an inch in thickness and rock solid!
I'm sure this is not normal, our first child didn't have this problem on the same diet and the doctor keeps telling us that there's nothing they can do (although in the six months she has been suffering this we have not managed to see the same doctor twice). Has anyone else had any experience with this? What did you do to stop it? could it be an allergy or IBS? I just don't know and I hate not being able to end this misery for her. Please help us.
