Single but partnered

Anyone here single but living with a partner that's not a parent? I am in that situation and find myself mediating between my partner and my kids. Neither end seems willing to listen to the other. Between "they're YOUR kids" and "they aren't my PARENT", it can feel like a game of tug-of-war with you as the rope!

Sometimes it can be great, don't get me wrong, but it can be really tough sometimes, too. I tend to feel like I'm being torn between them and I hate that feeling.

Take a deep breathe, it will get easier. And no I don't know this by first hand (myself) experience, but I do know it from many others in the same situation as yourself.

My friend just moved her boyfriend and his kid in. She loves them both but is always frustrated with the way that her BF raises his child. I try to tell her -to each his own- but she wants to control the situation.
I don't really know what to tell her as I have never been in her situation.

Thta's definitely a touchy situation to be in, just try not to over react. Think about what you say before you say it. Don't undermine you hubby's correction in front of the kids.

Try to understand the situation and must need to decide to the best of your family.

I think as the elders (that means you and your partner), you two really have to work together to make the household come together as a family. Your partner has to understand that kids are kids. Have a heart to heart talk with your partner, and get his point of view as well, then work it out. Like Alexis said, it will get better if the two of you are receptive enough. Good luck!
