Squash? I think?

Someone gave us some produce, and included were these little squash or gourd type things. They were kind of squatty little things. Maybe almost the shape of an upside-down acorn squash. Raw, they had no flavor at all. I haven't cooked any yet. The seeds looked almost like cucumber seeds. Anyone know what this is?

It sounds like a buttercup squash. I usually quarter them, take the seeds out and wrap them in aluminum foil with butter and brown sugar. They are very tasty that way. You can also chunk them and boil and mash them like a potato.

What color are they? Most of the squashes are good prepared the way mommyof3 suggested. I would try roasting it and see how it tastes. Your kids will probably love it with the brown sugar too.

It's too early for buttercups.. they are a fall veggie. I'm wondering what they are. No matter what it is, you can grill them. Sounds like some kind of squash, so just slice them - toss them in a marinade and then toss them on the grill. I bet they are full of flavor when you cook them.

If they are white, then they are white patty pan squash and you cook them just like any other summer squash. We like them steamed whole and treat them like a baked potato with butter, salt and pepper.

Any type of squash tastes great roasted in the oven and topped with butter, little brown sugar as well a sprinkle of cinnamon!

Have you tried to dehydrate the foods instead? Our little one will not eat certain fruits unless they are dehydrated. And we just learned this over the weekend so guess what we are buying next?
