Stain Removal

Babies at least are easy to care for, with just poop and milk stains to deal with, and breast milk poop stains-well, there's just no point trying to remove them.

But now that I have a toddler it's a different world, laundry wise. Anyone have any stain removal genius ideas that you are willing to share? It's mostly food but also wax crayon, and so called 'washable' paint.

Well, for me I use baby oxy for our stains. I pre treat them right away (or as soon as I can remember). I've been told it works on everything.

The breastfed poop stains. I was told to hang it outside to dry after it's been washed. The UV rays work to fade the stain so you can't see them. I've tried it, it really works. And it's free!

I normally keep a bucket with soapy water to throw dirty things in from the kids. Alot of friends depend on Oxi-clean but I'm not too much for all those chemicals. I suppose you could rub baking soda on the stain and pour on some hydrogen peroxide to get the same effect.

Best thing I ever found

I don't even know if you can still find this, but I used to use a product called L.O.C from Amway. It was non-toxic so I liked it when my kids were little and it worked a treat. It even took the poopie and formula spit-up stains out. It's a bit expensive but it is concentrated so a little bit went a long way. They had a low-sudsing version that was great as a laundry additive, too.

I too prefer none chemical options as we have a generally fairly chemical free home, beyond the likes of pledge. Thank you for reminding me about sunning out stains. I do not know why I had forgotten as I used to sun out stains from my diapers.

I now have to hope that the sun will shine soon.

My mother used the help of a lime extract, must be from extracted from the fruit directly to the stain, or a vinegar. The only thing that I don't like about this method is that the smell of these stain removers stays in the clothe so I need to place a considerable amount of perfume to take over the smell of the lime or vinegar.

And by the way, here is a great resource in removing stains.

I have never thought about using baking soda for soaking things in, good tip! I am always looking for new ways to help out. I can never manage to keep whites clean without something being split on them.

I love oxyclean. works great on any mess my three can produce (and they are champion mess makers!). I don't know how "chemical free" it is though.
