Starting education early

No, I don't mean making your baby do worksheets LOL! But very little ones can learn sign language, and even letters and sounds and numbers... colors... things like that. Sign language helps them to be able to communicate before they can talk, which can help lessen frustration.

I used Leap Frog DVDs to help my children learn letters and their sounds and numbers. And, of course, reading to your children will help in many ways - both with learning language and with security, because ANY time you spend time with your child, it helps!

I was a very hands on mom when my girls were babies. I read to them and got down and played with them all the while teaching them colors and other things.

My husband and I both try to spend time with our little one everyday reading and going over colors, numbers, and letters. I think she is picking up on stuff pretty quick too.

I have also read about how important is the reading. My sister in law bought the tapes for teaching the baby to talk/read starting at one. Let's see how that works.

There is never an age that is too early to young, you just need to keep in mind that you need patience too. I know some people who start reading to their children still in the womb. Why not? Practice and being around certain things early tends to break that "new" and "early" trend that some people are against. I just can not figure out for the life of me why people think there is a certain age to start things by.

I'd never have believed that babies could learn sign language until I saw my cousin's little girl. She taught her to sign before she could talk and the tot could ask for food and drink, tell you she loved you and other things. It was amazing!

I like parents that are involved in their children readiness for school. Too many of my friends are not really parenting their children early on and they wonder why their kids are the way the are!

That's true, cameron! A lot of parents seem to just "bide their time" with their babies, sending them off to daycare and/or preschool just as soon as they possibly can. I, personally, find that a bit sad.
