Too healthy

Is thier such a thing and children eating too healthy? My friends say that I am too health conscious with my children. I just make sure they have a balanced meal and that snacks are celery or carrots or natural things like that. We do not have cookies or candy in my house.

I don't know if it's the best idea to never let your kids have cookies or candy because if you do that when they get the chance they are more likely to over indulge. Having healthy meals and snacks is great though.

I am raising my 14 month old as a vegetarian plus fish. So far, she's loved just about everything I've given her except broccoli. The other day, she ate an entire package of tofu, lol. Anyway, I am all for healthy eating when it comes to a child's diet, but every once in a while there should be a treat. That way they understand that treats are exactly that - something you don't normally eat.

And treats don't necessarily have to be all that bad. For example, if I want to do something special for my daughter I will bake chocolate chip cookies or a cake. I make everything from scratch so, yea, she's getting sugar, but I know what's going into it and it's not all fake ingredients I can't pronounce.

I agree about not giving her any treats ever. they will overindulge if given the opportunity. I also make my treats like cake or cookies from scratch and they are only allowed 1.

I raised my daughter to eat a lot of fruit and veg, and for a long time she wouldn't look at a fry. Now she eats a grand total of three or four in a sitting.

Kids need treats-its the only way a true balance will be achieved.

I'd say give them treats once in a while and tell them how this is stuff you only eat sometimes. This way when they get to school and have choices, they can make them right. Plus soon they will start eating at friend's houses and birthday parties, etc.

At the same time, most children who are brought up eating healthy food will be largely uninterested in sweet treats, especially mass-produced ones, because they will taste TOO sweet.

There's definitely nothing wrong with raising your children to eat healthy!

Ok I can see your point with the cookies and cakes and things. I will just have to incorporate it into our house a little. I am not a sweets person either. The only time we have cake and ice cream are birthdays. I hope they make wise choices through their lives.

I agree with the others that treats are just that a rare treat but if you don't give them to your kids occasionally they won't know how to act when they do get one.
