I got the varicella vaccine for my daughter but I am undecided about giving it to our next little one. The problem though is that I nor my mother has had chicken pox. I have had the vaccine but not until my 20's. Neither of us has ever gotten them despite numerous exposures.

You can consider getting a test that will tell you whether you are immune to it or not. It's called a titre test, and it's a pretty simple blood test, if you are that concerned.

Some tips of vaccination are as following.....

  • Haemophilus influenza B (HiB vaccine against bacterial meningitis) – at 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 14 weeks, and a booster dose at 1 and a half years
  • Chicken pox – at 1 year or above
  • Hepatitis A – at 1 year and 1 and a half years

Call me ignorant, but I think people are alarmists. I think that the benefits far out weight the dangers. I vaccinated my first 3 and plan to do so with the new baby also.
