Vaccinations
I know this is a VERY controversial topic.
With the implications of the MMR with autism, and the fact that pertussis doesn't last more than a year (despite what they tell you)... and all the horrible side effects that are *possible* - yikes!
Many people now are choosing to delay (at least), and be selective.
Did you know that the package insert for the MMR states that it should NOT be given at the same time as ANY OTHER vaccination?

Vacciens
I have a child with autism however he was born with it. We delayed his vaccines because he was born early. He had signs of autism before he got vaccinated. I do not know if vaccines cause autism but I know there must be other things that cause it as well. I really feel that there are environmental things that cause it too. I do get all of my kids vaccinated but on a slightly delayed schedule.
The truth is that the vaccines may have saved my autistic child's life. He was exposed to something dangerous that he was vaccinated against. Not only him but all my kids were exposed. But they were fine because they got vaccinated.
I respect a parent has a choice and it is up to them but my personal choice is to keep my kids fully vaccinated.

If you ever did a search of what went in to vaccines you would be shocked. I chose to vaccinate mine with the older vaccines and had to have them vaccinated against chickenpox because of school. I would have rather not because I know someone whose children got chickenpox later and it is worse when they get it when they are older.

LaraC, did you know that there are exemptions from vaccinations (for medical, religious or philosophical reasons) in almost all states? You don't actually have to have them in most cases....
There really are a lot of shocking ingredients, shocking potential side effects-and I'm not including autism, which I am not convinced that vaccines are primarily implicated in. Side effects far more debilitating and life threatening-this subject really does deserve some research before you just accept what the doc tells you.

Wow, I never new it was controversial. I just did what the doctor told me. I am really nervous now to go and research this farther as my child just got her school vaccinations. She got both the MMR and the V something for chicken pox at the same time.

Varicella is the one for chicken pox. It has been shown to confer *temporary* immunity, which generally delays the disease until adulthood, which is usually worse. Actually getting the chickenpox usually confers permanent immunity. And since chickenpox is one of the least dangerous childhood diseases, I personally feel the risk of the vaccine is worse than the risk of the disease itself.

We really struggled with our vaccine decisions and no parent should ever just do what the doctor tells you there is plenty of great information out there. One book in particular by Dr. Jim Sears was very helpful. We did vaccinate but on OUR schedule not the one recommended by the pediatrician.

I got my son all his vaccinations for first year as scheduled by the doctor and then waited till he was 5 to do the rest of them and I got a lot of grief over it from my parents and my doctor, but he is happy and healthy and that is what matters most to me.

Yes, the chicken pox shot is one of the least sensible. Around twenty years is what they think it SHOULD last, and in children it was always seen as a very mild disease. Suddenly there is a vaccine and it is being touted as a killer. And yes it is-in adults-who are now more likely to get the disease, or else will be dependant on the vaccine for life.
Worse-shingles is on the rise, because exposure to a child with chicken pox acts as a booster against shingles (which is caused by a resurgence of the dormant chicken pox virus). Kids as young as four are getting shingles-a disease far more debilitating and painful than chicken pox because they are getting a weakened variety of the virus, which the body simply doesn't react to in the same way as the real deal.
Their answer is to then lump shingles vaccine into the mix. It is a recipe for birth to the grave reliance on vaccines, any of which could cause a fatal reaction at any point in life. Where is the logic?

My friends call it a "tin foil alert" (hehehe) - there is some speculation that the pushing of vaccines is at least partly so that the government can - when it chooses - add any number of things to these shots, to do such things as limit population, increase passiveness, and other similar things.
Yeah, it's a paranoid kind of thought... but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen...
