Vitamins

Does your child take Vitamins? At what age did you start them on Vitamins and what kind? My daughter has never really taken any Vitamins, she didn't like them. I make sure that she drinks a lot of OJ and gets other nutrients.

I think if your child has a healthy lifestyle and diet, vitamins are not necessary. But if your child refuses to eat certain kinds of foods or are fussy eaters, it might be beneficial to give them supplements that contain vitamins from food that they're not eating.

My daughter hates fish. I've tried encouraging her to eat her fish, but as soon as I feed her some fish, she begins to gag. So I replaced that with Omega 3 fish oil supplements. Not the liquid one, even I hated the taste of that as a kid, but the chewy, sweeter, variety.

As for when is the right time to start giving vitamins to children, I think as soon as they're eating solid foods, you should start to take notice of what your child eats and doesn't eat. From there, you can decide what vitamins are lacking in your child's body, if necessary.

When my daughter was 2 she started taking vitamins. We have gummy chewy ones from the same company that I get mine through. I think it is a good habit to get into early. We take them together at dinner. We do eat pretty healthy most of the time, but I rather take vitamin supplements now and not have as many problems later in life.

I just started giving my step son vitamins because we are sure he eats nothing except fast food junk at his dads house. And his dad has him half of the time. We have also tried having the father give the vitamins but he doesn't bother.

It is estimated that a daily multivitamin is given to 25-50% of children in the United States, although this is generally not necessary for most children with an average diet. Some children that have a poor or restricted diet, liver disease or other chronic medical problems, especially those that lead to fat malabsorption, such as cystic fibrosis, may need vitamin and mineral supplements to prevent deficiencies.

I think supplements are a good idea, especially with the level of processing within our foods nowadays. Not sure when you're supposed to start though.

I do know you have to be cautious with juices though as they can be really high in sugars and not that high in vitamins.
