How long should a couple wait before checking out a doctor to make sure nothing is wrong with being able to conceive? I have heard some people wait over two years and I think thats too long, is it?
I'm not sure there is a perfect length of time to wait. If its important to you to get pregnant right now then obviously you want to go in sooner rather than later. If you can afford it, go in before trying. While its fun to try, it could be useful to know before the frustration starts setting in that you both are able to conceive.
I don't know if there is any specific time, I think that anywhere between six months to a year is a reasonable time to check the doctor. Even if it's just to find out if something is wrong.
I think it varies depending on the couple. I have seen some that tried for a year (like myself) and it finally worked, and others would only wait six months.
I've heard that before about a year the doctor won't even bother doing any tests. Sometimes it just takes time. I don't know how long I would wait. I'd probably go in after a year. By that point you're pretty sure there's a reason for the delay.
I've also heard that after a year of trying you are considered clinically unable to conceive and tests can be ordered then. That may be for insurance purposes though... if you have the money for out of pocket, you can do them at any time.
