weight gain + pregnancy

i am 10 pounds over my normal weight due to medication i was on a few months ago. i know to take care of the baby and that is the most important. but, has anyone gone into pregnancy 10 pounds over their normal and then not gained as much as they would because they already had 10 extra pounds?

i guess my point is i dont want to gain 30 pounds on top of the 10 i am already carrying. is it possible to gain 20, be healthy, and have a healthy babe?

Well, I was never pregnant but I know that one of my friends gained lots of weight as well and had a healthy baby. Do you have a midwife you could probably ask for advice?

One *should* gain about 20 pounds DURING a pregnancy. Losing weight is NOT good for a developing baby, regardless of *why* (it spills ketones, which are not good for developing baby's brain). Even losing due to eating more healthy has this effect.

As much as losing weight is no fun...worrying about weight gain while you are pregnant is just a bad idea. Besides particularly if you breast feed you will lose a good deal of weight in the first few months after the baby is born between breast feeding and running around taking care of baby and house. Just make sure you eat healthy after baby arrives.

Yes you can gain 20 and still have a healthy happy baby. My wife only gained 15 pounds with her first and he is a happy healthy 4 year old. She lost all of it in the first 6 months of his life.
