I was just thinking, what if I cannot produce a child and my last option is to adopt, what would be the best age of child? Should I look for a newly born baby or just go to an adoption house where there are kids that are about a year old?

It depends on how long you want to wait I think. Everyone wants a newborn, and I think babies about a year old go almost as fast.

I want to adopt some day, but I plan to adopt an older child, because they tend to be ignored and forgotten and they need the love just as much as the infant/toddler that people are fighting over while the older child is being completely ignored.

Future Father

Depends on the circumstances, and what your prepared to handle. Getting a newborn isn't always the best decision, when there are some older children who've waited YEARS for a real family.

I think you can adopt a child at any age, that doesnt really matter, what does - is that child will have a good home.

For me, it does matter a lot. A baby has no fixed character yet so I could rear the baby the way I want him/her to be. I know the point of adopting a child old enough to know its name and I am considering that too but I'm not sure if I would like his/her character.

All the same, thanks for the comments. It makes me think a lot more about adopting a child.

it's a tough call indeed. An older kid might be harder to handle sometimes, since he/she is not raised by you in the first years, but they are worth the efforts. It's a pity to see them live in orphanages and people avoiding them since they're too big .. A new born is what most want since you can raise the kid from the first months of life and really integrate him/her well in the family.
