What are the chances of loosing lifelong weight?

I have always been overweight. I have been the size I am now since after having my first child 15 years ago. The other babies have not added to my weight (after birth) at all. What are the chances of me losing weight down to a so-called "healthy" weight which I haven't seen since I was 10 and was overweight then? I just feel like there's no point in trying sometimes.

There is a VERY good chance of it, if you are willing to work hard. Pre-pregnancy, I weighed 196lb. My weight had slowly been creeping up from the age of eight.

I now weight 166lbs, and it's still coming down. It's taken time but I am very happy about it.

There is evidence that after having children your "default" weight is reset to a higher number to allow for the nutrients needed to breastfeed. You can reset it back, and to whatever is healthy for you through some effort, but it is possible.

I just get so discouraged about it. I wonder why I even bother. My husband bought a scale yesterday, because he has been trying loose weight. He had lost 17 pounds when he went to the doc the other day. So I stepped on it and I weigh exactly the same I did when I got pregnant with my 19 month old. Which is way too much, by the way. It seems to be my body's "set" weight. I will loose a few pounds and then it hits back there, or I will gain some weight and then it hits back there. It just seems like it always has to be right there. I almost wish I were a guy who could just lift some weights and loose 17 pounds in 2 weeks.

I did the same thing. I balooned up to 292 when my daughter was born. I had always stayed around 230 which was still very overweight, but better than what I weigh now. Within days of her being born, I dropped down to 240. Slowly my weight began to creep back up and I have been stuck at 260 for the last 3 years. I don't eat a huge amount, but even if I cut back it seems like I am frozen at this weight. The only thing I can figure it might be is my lack of exercise.

I don't get near enough exercise either. I work at home and so I am sitting at the computer all day. I try to get out with the baby and go for a walk, but he is a mosquito magnet and every time he comes back with 2 or 3 new bites. My husband is wanting to buy an exercise bike, so that might be helpful.

17 pounds in two weeks is not healthy unless under extreme supervision by a doctor and nutritionist. Don't ever wish for unhealthy weight loss as it is often the weight that doesn't stay off.

To help reset your weight you need to exercise, alot. You need to get your metabolism woken up and remembering its supposed to burn the calories of not just absorb and store them for winter padding.

Not only that, but such rapid weight loss can increase your risk of such things as gall stones. Its not something to mess with-you need to do it slow and steady.

Really? I never knew that rapid weight loss would cause gall stones. My hubby had hernia surgery back in October and he ended up losing like 26 pounds in three weeks. Wouldn't you know that less than a year later he had to have gall bladder surgery.

Well my husband just had his gall bladder out before losing that 17 pounds. All he has done was start exercising, and not a lot of that. His eating habits haven't changed one bit. He weighs nearly 300 pounds, so 17 pounds really isn't that much on him. His clothes are just a tad bit baggy now, but he didn't even really drop a pant size.

Thank you all for the advice!! I have been doing some things differently. Trying to get more exercise, etc.
