I am still having the battle with my girl over what she is trying to say. Its not like there are times when she gets frustrated or anything but I have looked at hand and body movements, listened as close as possible and nothing. You should have heard her the other day when we were out and about, talking all kinds of rambles and then poof no idea what she is talking about and I look like a fool in public.

The only thing I could suggest would be to sit and read to her a lot. Talk to her about the book, about what she sees in it, and help her repeat sentences from it. When you know what it is she is trying to say, it will help you decipher her speech.

how old is your baby??
didnt you know its quite normal for babies and toddlers to babble incoherantly ...noone else knows what the hell shes on about but to her it makes perfect sense!! its actually really normal

The above poster is correct in that many babies do babble and are really not saying anything at all. My 15 month old does this most of the time. He is saying 4 words (and possibly a 5th as of today). Mama and dada are clear as day and he says zeze whenever he sees his sister (who we call sisi). A few days ago we finally discovered that his ssss sound he often makes is his attempt at "see" (which we figured out only because he learned to point and says it while pointing). Today he started saying "ba" whenever leaving a room. I think he's saying bye, but that's yet to be determined.

Almost 21 months (1yr, 8mo) and I know they babble but I still dont catch on as best Im sure others have. I had this same issue with my son (who is now going into 1st grade next year). I have no idea but my mommy translator must be broken or on the fritz!
