When to call it quits

I have had all of my children, but for those of you who are still trying, when do you call it quits? How long and at what cost are you will to go? I know how I was; so I'm curious.

I'll call it quits when menopause hits

Seriously, though. I'm a Christian and I view God as Sovereign over all - and that includes my family size. The Bible says He opens and closes the womb, and I've seen proof of that in my OWN life. So if He gives two, fine; and if He sends 19 (like the Duggars), fine. And anywhere in between!

And since He sends me blessings (children) - He also provides for them. I've also seen THAT play out in my own life, so I know I can trust Him.

Yeah, finally someone after my own heart. I got so tired of my family asking that question. After my ninth, I missed my period and some of the children said they were going to lynch their dad and some said they were going to run away. They were thrilled with they found out "God had closed the womb".

I'd struggle with more than two, if I'm honest but my niece (who is a year older than me) has six already and she isn't thirty yet! Some people are Earth Mothers and some aren't. I'm definitely not!

I've heard a lot of moms-of-many say that 3 is harder than 2 (because you're suddenly outnumbered!) but 4 is *easier*.

We are planning for two. I think that is all we can afford. Maybe my faith is not as strong. I truly admire people with large families but it is just not for us.

I think for each and every couple out there, the answer can very well change. One set might be happy with two and another wants 4, who knows? Each family is always a little different and unique. What works for some may not work for all, that includes family size.

I think it depends on the people. I know a lot of people that have 4 kids and they love it. That would be too many for me. I just don't think I would have enough time to devote to them all equally.

My best friend and her husband struggled trying to conceive and eventually ended up at a fertility doctor. They went through the motions for about a year and then came to the conclusion that if they couldn't have children naturally then that was the way it was supposed to be.

I remember her telling me about sitting in the waiting room at the doctor's office one morning and looking around at all the hopeful couples and thinking that she could see in their faces that their entire worlds were hinging on conception. And she just didn't feel that way. She felt like if she got pregnant, great. If not, oh well. That's when she stopped trying. It is now years later and they still don't have kids and they are both fine with it.

We wanted the children God wanted us to have because we love children. I had 6 with no problem and then with my 7th I had major problems and my husband just about lost us both. He made the decision to have my tubes tied while I was out of it. Since then we have adopted 5 more children. They aren't perfect and we've been through some real trials, but we aren't sorry we've had and adopted the children we have.
