I don't think it's a very good idea. Many times when a baby gets used to something he won't sleep until he has it. What happens if you take a trip or go somewhere and you forget the machine? Your baby won't sleep at all. It's better to just feed him, make sure his diaper is clean and lay him in his crib. He will sleep like a log.

I agree with Livingston. In all the books that I have been reading, it stresses that the baby needs to learn to but himself to sleep. If you make a routine like music or rocking, they could backfire on you and later on it will be a living hell.

Got to disagree here my baby had colic and the sound machine on the heart beat sound was one of the few things that at least helped us get a little sleep. She didn't need it anymore by the time she was about 4 months so I don't see the harm.

I understand what you mean but I think the white noise should be family sounds. I always put my baby down for the night before everyone else, so the family noises were heard. When we went on trips, though, he wouldn't sleep until I figured out turning on the radio talk show very low.

My daughter has a teddy bear she sleeps with that makes the womb sounds and I don't leave home without it. It's just a teddy bear so it's not a hassle to drag it around. It shuts itself off after about 20 minutes and she sleeps like a champ for the rest of the night so I see no harm in it.

I also had the womb sounds bear for my daughter. It worked great and was easy to take with. I have a friend that had a son who didn't sleep through the night until he was 3 after she bought a sound and projector machine at babies r us. He only used it for about 7 months and now goes to sleep on his own without anything.
