Will you plan your vacations around your children?

I know some parents make it a point to take their vacations somewhere where their children will be entertained. Generally they go to amusement parks, like Disney or even 6 flags or something as the child gets a little older. Other parents just go on vacation where they want to go and drag the kids along. My parents tried to do both, but generally we ended up visiting old relatives where I was bored to tears. Which kind of parent do you intend to be?

We'll have to go visit family, of course. But he's got so many cousins that he should have big fun when we go to Ky. Of course when he's old enough, I look forward to taking him to 6 flags or Cedar Point, but that's a ways off. And those will generally be day trips instead of vacation.

They're only little for such a short time. You should make every attempt to make every vacation an enjoyable memory for everyone in the family. Just because a vacation is "kid friendly" doesn't mean the parents won't have an absolute blast. I can only imagine how much I'm going to enjoy watching my twins experience places like Disney World. I can hardly wait.

My parents always planned a family vacation every year. They always made sure we went somewhere that would be fun for the kids.

We would go to Enchanted Forest, a local kiddies park, in the summer. It was all done up in storybook characters. Once they outgrew Enchanted Forest we took them to Hershey Park or the ocean.

I think vacations should be a family event. You should try to plan something that everyone is going to enjoy. But I also think that once in awhile parents need at least a weekend away by themselves. So, you should try to do both.

Doing both is the way to go I think. Lets face it we love our family but, sometimes we need to venture off without everyone along.

My parents were very even. Parents day and Kids day. On our day we could generally do whatever we wanted. "this is your day" is what they would tell us and they'd follow us all over and wait in all the lines for the rides. and on their day we were always told "you had your turn, now it's mom and dads turn to do what they enjoy most" I think it was fair and everyone enoyed it.

We were pretty much taken on adult vacations where there were things for kids to do. Like cruises that had kid sections, or else beach trips.
