Would you ever name your baby after a character?

Hi, this is just something i've been thinking about. With all the common names out there, how many of you would be willing to try something a little different? What about naming your child after after a character in a book or movie? What about thinking up your own names? Personally, i'd prefer my children to have unique names. There's far too many people named David,Chris,Dan etc. if you ask me. But what about the rest of you? How would you feel? Do all names have to be the traditional ones? I can understand that some people may be concerned about their children being picked on for their names, but that type of stuff is likely to happen anyway. So, opinions?

Believe it or not, I actually heard a lady calling her wee boy Neo (as in the movie, The Matrix) the other day while shopping. I quite liked that though, it's got a nice sound to it. My friend called her daughter Peyton - her dad was a Peyton Manning fan. Again, that sounds pretty nice to me. It's different but not too "out there".

If you're choosing names from characters in games or movies, then it's only fair to pick something that's not too outlandish. While it may sound cool at an early age, can you imagine growing up, being in a professional job and having to admit your name comes from the Final Fantasy series or something. Plus you'd get mighty tired of people saying, "Are you named after...?"

I always liked Sky as a girl's name though or Storm for a boy, but didn't use them for the above reason. If I was doing it all again, I think I'd go for something Celtic sounding. It is nice to hear a bit of individuality coming through in names though. I bet teachers would enjoy not having five Davids in a classroom too!

I don't think I could saddle my child with a odd name.

When we chose names we tried to make sure that the nickname that might go with it wasn't cruel. I would think the same of names.

I love unique names, and I dispise mine (but thats another story!).

My son: Alexander Stone
My girl: Arianna Cailynn (Are-E-Anna Kay-lynn)

Oddly, if anyone knew my first and middle name, they would think I was just giving myself some extra points with my daughters name.

I couldn't just imagine someone would name their child Lucifer or Satan.

But I know of a family that has a last name that means dumb or idiot (the name was in Filipino and it was "Bobo"). I don't why they have that name but the children are always being picked by their classmates at school. I just hope the kids will change their last names someday, especially the boys.

In Cambodia, parents are naming their children with odd names like pig or clay because they have this superstition that evil spirits will get their children if they have good names.

Well, I'm just glad that my parents have given me a good name. I will base the name of my future children according to a good character. For example my name Ryan James, Ryan stands for "King" and James stands for "a person who supplants. So my name is "A king who supplants." I just wish I'm a king. I would name my son maybe Archibald which means brave and Belvedere for a daughter which means beautiful.

If you like to know the meanings of your names, you can visit this site: BABY NAMES. It might also help you in naming your child.

It depends on the name! If I -really- liked a name, I might use it, non/fictional char name or not.

I would never name my kid like, optimus prime though, HAHAAHAHA!

How about Rainbow Bright?? lol!

I really doubt I would ever name any child after a character. There are too many people I love that are real that I would rather honor by naming my child after them

My husband and I got into a battle before our child was born over the middle name, which was going to be after one of the grandparents. Of course, I wanted to name the baby after my family and he wanted it to be after his. In the end, our son never got a middle name at all, because neither of us wanted to back down about it. Silly, it really was.

I'd never give my child a weird name. Life can be tough enough without giving others a reason to pick on them.

I've definitely read a fair few Celtic novels and thought they'd make lovely names if I ever had a daughter. But if my kids take after me they'd be a bit odd as my mom and I are built more like Mack trucks than flowers. But I'd never name them after a big Holywood movie character. Some obscure film festival winner maybe, but no Neo here.
