Would you have other family in the room?
The threads on dads and children got me wondering how many people would choose to have other family members present for their child's birth.
I didn't want anyone else in there that I knew! LOL! I mean, there were a ton of medical professionals, but all strangers. I don't think I'd want a family member there. But then, maybe if I had been closer to my mother, I would have felt differently.
What do you think?

Well, I'm fairly odd. In the room when I birthed my first was the husband, my mom and dad, and the midwife and her assistant.
For my son it was all of the above, plus my daughter and an extra midwife.

Absolutely not! Just my husband, the doc, nurses and me, of course!
For me that would be too weird having my mom, dad, best friend, etc.

It would have to be really close family to me maybe someone that I always spend holidays with otherwise it would be a no for me. I don't like people in my private times I prefer being alone.

I thought I was strange for not wanting anybody else in the room when I gave birth. I only wanted the medical professionals and my husband, I thought that having my parents in the room would feel uncomfortable for me. I'm glad things worked out like that, I wasn't constantly worrying what everybody else was doing.

When I had my first, there were a lot of training nurses in the room, and I felt like I was in a waving gallery. I dont think I would want anybody but maybe my mom and husband, outside of the medical practitioners, in the room. When the pains hit though, it never mattered anymore.

It's going to be just me and hubby, and the doc and nurse. I don't want anyone else seeing me in all my "glory". Let htem see us after, not during the birth.

That basically sums up my feelings on the issue.
I would just feel uncomfortable being in that situation and having parents and friends in the room. When my mom gave birth to my little sister, she had everybody in the room with her. I just don't know if I could do that.

With my first, my mom was there too. She was rateful to see her first granddaughter born. I guess it's a whole different experience when you're not on the playing end. My other two though, it was just me and my husband. No reason, just because.

I don't think so, I think just my husband, my sister and mom and my doula if my mom or my sister is not playing that role. It's just one less thing to be concerned about when you just want to get a baby out.
