Yogurt and Applesauce

The one thing that both my children loved was a mixture of vanilla yogurt and applesauce. I would mix raisins in it. It was something that could be eaten any time of the day.

In the summertime I would mix it up without the raisins and freeze it. It was between a sorbet and a sherbet. They loved it.

I thought sorbet and sherbet were the same thing,

any way that sounds like an interesting idea to mix those to things.

It seems like it would be, but sherbet and sorbet don't have applesauce mixed in it like mine did. I forgot to add that sometimes I would mix colored, sprinkles in the mix and freeze it. That was great when it was someone's birthday.

I would've never thought of this. What a great idea. So healthy, and it sounds absolutely delicious. I normally have fruit and yogurt for breakfast, I think I'm going to try this one myself. Sounds like a "not just for babies" recipe to me.

This post made me laugh. I've been mixing applesauce and yogurt for myself for years. My husband looks at me like I've lost my mind. My favorite is pear flavored applesauce mixed with vanilla yogurt. I've never added raisins to it though, I'm going to have to try that.

That's sort of true... In America, they're regarded as the same thing (sweetened, aerated, frozen fruit juice), but in other countries they're not. In any case, I'd be concerned about giving it to my kid (or at least, more than a little bit)... too much sugar. In a classical preparation, it contains nothing but fruit juice and sugar, and usually a very unhealthy amount of the latter.

I suppose, however, you could make it yourself out of a few toddler-appropriate juice boxes if you had an ice cream maker.

sorbet:flavored water/fruit/chocolate/liquor
sherbet:includes dairy products such as milk and cream between 1-2% milk fat. Anything over is ice cream.
They are used interchangeably in the US although they are slightly different. There are probably some in health food stores that are organic and have lower sugar/no added sugar.

Sounds really good though with the applesauce and yogurt. I might have to try that for brunch this weekend with my husband or the next time my nieces come over. I like the sprinkles idea too. Much healthier than the stuff they normally eat with coloring and flavoring and sugar left and right.
